“Make Sure You’re Ready” — ARC Raiders Details Major Changes for Its Second Expedition
🎮 A Different Take on Wipes in ARC Raiders
ARC Raiders approaches server resets differently from traditional extraction shooters. Instead of forcing regular wipes, players are given the option to take part in Expeditions — permanent departures from the Rust Belt that reset progress in exchange for long-term rewards.
To participate, players must gather the materials needed to construct an Expedition Caravan. Once built, they can choose to depart during a limited window. This system is designed to feel optional and rewarding rather than mandatory, keeping ARC Raiders accessible to a more casual audience.
After feedback from the first Expedition, Embark Studios is now refining the system to better respect players’ time and effort.
🔧 Skill Point Changes and Catch-Up Mechanics
One of the biggest criticisms of the first Expedition was the grind required to earn Skill Points. Embark has addressed this directly with two major updates:
- A new catch-up system allows players who skipped the first Expedition to reclaim missed Skill Points.
- Catch-up Skill Points are heavily discounted, reducing the total Coins required to reach maximum progression.
Skill Point costs are also being lowered across the board:
- Each Skill Point in the second Expedition now costs 600,000 Stash value, down from 1 million.
- Skill Points from the first Expedition are discounted further, costing 300,000 per point.
- Players aiming to earn all 10 Skill Points across both Expeditions will need 4.5 million total Stash value.
These changes significantly reduce the overall grind and make Expeditions more approachable.
🎁 Rewards for First-Time and Returning Raiders
Embark is also expanding Expedition rewards to better recognize repeat participation:
For first-time Expedition players:
- Full access to rewards from the first Expedition
For players departing on a second Expedition:
- Previously earned permanent bonuses are retained, even if players skip future Expeditions
- Expanded cosmetic customization options
- Additional stacking buffs for consecutive departures
🧥 Permanent Rewards and Bonuses
Players who complete Expeditions can unlock lasting upgrades, including:
Cosmetics
- Evolved Patchwork outfit with extra toggles
- New Scrappy outfit
- Upgraded Expedition Indicator icon for each completed Expedition
Permanent Bonuses
- Stash space increased from 12 to 24 slots
- Up to 5 additional Skill Points per Expedition
- Catch-up Skill Points from missed Expeditions (up to 85 total Skill Points possible)
⚡ Stacking Buffs for Consecutive Expeditions
Players who continue to depart on back-to-back Expeditions will receive stacking bonuses:
- XP boost increased from 5% to 10%
- Scrappy materials boost increased from 6% to 12%
- Repair value bonus increased from 60% to 70%
These buffs reset if a player chooses not to depart again, encouraging long-term commitment while still keeping participation optional.
🌫️ What’s Coming Next in ARC Raiders
Players can begin building their Expedition Caravan now, with key dates approaching quickly:
- Expedition sign-ups: February 25
- Departure window: March 1
In addition, a new content update called Shrouded Sky is expected soon. This update is rumored to introduce:
- A new map condition, potentially the long-awaited Toxic Swamp
- A new ARC threat
- The Raider Deck
- Additional gameplay updates and features
🧠 Final Thoughts
The second ARC Raiders Expedition looks like a clear step forward. By lowering progression costs, adding catch-up systems, and expanding long-term rewards, Embark Studios is making Expeditions feel more worthwhile without forcing participation. For players on the fence after the first wipe, these changes may be the incentive needed to prepare for departure.
