Modders Revive Danger Zone in Counter-Strike 2 with Custom Workshop Mode A dedicated team of creators is bringing CS:GO’s forgotten battle royale, Danger Zone, back to life in Counter-Strike 2
Battle royale isn’t dead in Counter-Strike just yet.
A talented team of modders led by LeviN, a well-known CS2 map creator, is breathing new life into Danger Zone, the experimental battle royale mode first introduced in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The fan-made revival, currently available on the CS2 Steam Workshop, brings back much of what players loved about the original mode — with some modern twists.
🔥 A Community Effort to Bring Back a Lost Game Mode
Originally launched on December 6, 2018, Danger Zone was Valve’s attempt to merge Counter-Strike’s tactical gameplay with the growing battle royale trend. Although it never reached the popularity of the main competitive modes, it built a dedicated following thanks to its strategic pacing, fast rounds, and unique survival mechanics.
When Counter-Strike 2 replaced CS:GO, the mode was left behind, and Valve later confirmed there were no official plans to bring Danger Zone back.
That’s where LeviN’s team stepped in. Since starting development in July 2025, the group has worked tirelessly to recreate the entire experience inside CS2’s Source 2 engine, making use of Valve’s latest scripting tools and community mod support.
🧩 Early Playtests and Features
The first public playtest of the CS2 Danger Zone mod was recently held, allowing players to experience the early build firsthand.
So far, the mode closely mirrors the CS:GO version, including:
- Up to 18 players per match
- Solos, duos, and trios support
- Full map looting and supply drones
- Shrinking combat zones and survival mechanics
According to the developers, future tests will experiment with larger lobbies and more team variations to better fit CS2’s modern gameplay flow. Despite being early in development, many of the original assets and mechanics have already been successfully ported.
🗺️ How to Play the CS2 Danger Zone Mod
If you’re eager to try it out yourself, you can:
1. Find the Danger Zone maps on the CS2 Steam Workshop. 2. Join LeviN’s official Discord server for updates, downloads, and upcoming playtest schedules.
As development continues, the team plans to refine gameplay balance, improve visuals, and add support for larger-scale matches.
⚙️ Why It Matters
The Danger Zone revival highlights just how powerful the CS2 modding community has become. Thanks to Valve’s expanded Workshop and scripting support, creators can now rebuild entire game modes that might otherwise be lost to time.
For fans of CS:GO’s original battle royale experiment, this project marks an exciting return — one that may even outshine the official version with time.
