Resident Evil Requiem Could Be Coming to PS4 and Switch 2 Rumors suggest Capcom’s next big survival horror entry may launch on last-gen consoles
Capcom surprised fans earlier this year by revealing Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) at Summer Game Fest, followed by an extended showcase at Gamescom. The game, set to release on February 27, 2026, follows new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, with rumors that fan-favorite Leon S. Kennedy will also appear in a more action-driven storyline.
Now, new insider reports suggest the survival horror title may also be headed to PlayStation 4, despite the franchise moving deeper into the current generation.
🎮 PS4 and Switch 2 Versions in the Works?
According to a reliable insider, Capcom is preparing a PS4 version of Requiem that will run on different tech than its PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X counterparts. Naturally, it won’t include all the next-gen visual enhancements, but it would make the game accessible to PS4’s massive player base.
The insider also hinted at a Nintendo Switch 2 release, though it remains unclear whether these ports will launch simultaneously with the next-gen versions.
📅 Why a PS4 Release Still Makes Sense
Even though the PS4 is over 12 years old and we’re five years into the PS5 generation, it remains one of the best-selling consoles of all time. Capcom has a history of supporting older platforms, with Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village all playable on PS4.
Capcom also recently cited the high price of PS5 consoles as a factor in lower-than-expected sales for Monster Hunter Wilds. Offering Requiem on PS4 could help maximize its reach and sales potential.
⚠️ Take It With Caution
At the time of writing, Capcom has not officially confirmed Resident Evil Requiem for PS4 or Switch 2. Fans should treat the reports as speculation until an announcement is made—possibly during Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show event on September 24.
🔥 The Bottom Line
While Resident Evil Requiem is confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the possibility of a PS4 and Switch 2 port is gaining traction. If true, it means Capcom is still focused on accessibility over pushing a purely next-gen experience.
With its mix of new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, rumored Leon S. Kennedy gameplay, and survival horror storytelling, Resident Evil Requiem is already one of 2026’s most anticipated releases—regardless of platform.
