Onimusha: Way of the Sword Reveals New Story Details and Characters Capcom’s latest trailer dives deeper into Musashi’s journey, his allies, and the foes awaiting him

The Onimusha franchise is making a major return, and the newest trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword gave fans a fresh look at the story behind its protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi. While combat remains as intense and stylish as ever, the spotlight this time is on Musashi’s internal struggle, his bond with the powerful gauntlet, and the characters who will shape his journey.

🎥 A Story of Strength and Sacrifice

The Tokyo Game Show 2025 trailer showcased Musashi’s devotion to his sword while wrestling with the reality that he’ll need the gauntlet’s demonic power to overcome supernatural threats. His path won’t be walked alone—several allies will guide him toward understanding the true meaning of personal strength and the balance between humanity and corruption.

👤 Allies and Historical Figures

Producer Akihito Kadowaki has previously emphasized that compelling characters are central to the experience. The game brings in real-world historical figures from the late 16th and early 17th centuries:

  • Izumo no Okuni – credited with pioneering kabuki theater.
  • Ono no Takamura – a scholar whose in-game role ties him to the gauntlet as well.

These characters add depth and historical authenticity to Musashi’s soul-searching journey.

⚔️ Rivalry with Sasaki Kojiro (Ganryu)

No Musashi tale would be complete without his rival Sasaki Kojiro, known in the game as Ganryu. The trailer revealed him as a major adversary, with the narrative confirming his role as a boss fight. Players at TGS 2025 even had the chance to battle a corrupted version of Ganryu in a demo, offering a taste of the high-stakes duels awaiting fans.

🔮 A Franchise Reborn

Following the successful remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny earlier this year, Capcom’s decision to fully revive the series has energized longtime fans and newcomers alike. With Onimusha: Way of the Sword targeting a 2026 release, this latest trailer proves the franchise is ready to blend intense combat, rich storytelling, and historical intrigue into its biggest comeback yet.
